Pincher Creek's Majors Dust Devils hosted Claresholm's Prairie Dawgs for a sunny evening of baseball on May 21.  It was the second game of the season for the Dust Devils, and also their home opener.  They were looking for their first win after losing a close one to Claresholm, but it wasn't to be.

The Dawgs pulled ahead early in the game, and despite picking up their socks in the latter half (some great steals helped) the Dust Devils were unable to bridge the gap.  Final score: Dawgs 11, Devils 7.

After the game I asked Dust Devils Coach Jeff Kaupp how the away game against Claresholm went. "Not bad, we lost I think the score was fairly close, it was 7 - 4 or something like that."

As to the Devils' strengths, as exhibited in both games and in practices, coach Kaupp said "The strength of our team is fielding, I think. We have really good fielding. We can catch the ball and throw the ball really well, we just have to work on our hitting a little bit." I asked him if stealing bases effectively was another of their strengths. "Yeah, we had pretty good base running in the third, it's an aspect that I haven't worked too much with them, yet. I have been concentrating on the catching and throwing aspect, first."

In general he was pleased with the team's efforts.  "Matthew Smith did a good job pitching his first game, he did really well. Wes Krampe is a solid fielder for us, that is shortstop and stuff, everyone has been doing really good. A good team effort, all around."
