Jenaya Launstein, Pincher Creek Voice - The Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) are just two short months away. Which means that registration will be open soon, May 9th to be exact! Registration costs $20, but for an extra $15 you get a snazzy Pincher Creek summer games shirt.

I talked to Jacqui Bruns about ball hockey, which is just one of the many sports to compete in. She stated that there is going to be some very good competition this year, consisting of teams from various areas in Southern Alberta. Jacqui also made it very clear that you don’t need a whole lot of experience to compete. You don’t need to have been on a hockey team, or be super athletic, you just need to come and have fun!

Also, make sure you bring the proper gear. You’ll need a hockey helmet, a wood or composite hockey stick (no plastic sticks allowed), shin guards (soccer style), and hockey or lacrosse gloves.

All ball hockey games will be taking place at the Pincher Creek arena. Games consist of two 20 minute periods. We are guaranteed to play at least 3 games, but if we make the “playoffs” then there will be more. The number of games also depends on how many teams will be competing. We will need 10-15 players on our team.

The 4 age group options are as follows: under 17, under 14, under 12, and under 10.

There are some things that we need you to help out with, though. We will need volunteers to run the clocks and help with scorekeeping, for example. If you would like to help, then please go to www.southernalbertasummergames.com , click the volunteer tab, enter your information, and then submit the form. We also need coaches. If you would like to coach, please contact the summer games office (403-627-4322).

For full rules please go to the summer games website and click the ball hockey tab. Let’s go for the gold, Pincher Creek!
