Boyle RCMP nab thieves with bait vehicles

The Boyle RCMP is taking a stance against vehicle theft in the region.

In conjunction with the RCMP Edmonton Auto Theft Unit, the Boyle RCMP has deployed bait vehicles in the area over the past few months. Bait vehicles, which are police-owned covert vehicles, are used to deter criminals, and to apprehend those caught stealing them.

On the evening of February 2, 2014, a bait vehicle was stolen from a rest area along Highway 63, and taken to a rural property near Wandering River. Police apprehended Christopher Bernard TYNAN (33) and Patrick Dale WOOD (40), both from Wandering River. The two males now face numerous charges, including theft, mischief, and possession of property obtained by crime. Their next court appearance is on April 8, in Boyle Provincial Court.

In the early morning hours of April 6, 2014, several bait vehicles were stolen from a privately-owned construction site in Grassland, and were taken to a rural property near Atmore. A 52 year old male, of Grassland, was apprehended by police. Charges are pending in relation to this theft.

Bait vehicles come in all shapes and sizes, and the Boyle RCMP reminds those who steal vehicles in the area that the next one they steal may just belong to police.
