Sr. Boys Basketball: Sabres defeat Vulcan Hawks

Chris Davis

Lundbreck's Livingstone School Sabres Senior Boys basketball team hosted Vulcan's Hawks for a game on Monday evening, March 3.  The Hawks put forth a solid effort but were no match for the Sabres on this evening. Final score Sabres 85, Hawks 39.

"What do you feed your kids?" asked Vulcan wag Nolan near the end of the game.  Vulcan's Hawks proved to be one of the best-natured teams in the league, paying with heart and enthusiasm despite decreasing odds as the game played out.

Top scorer in the game was Sabres #10 Chad Cadonic with 23 points, followed by Vulcan's #8 Brayden with 20 points and Sabres #15 Morgan Cook with 18 points.  Cadonic and Cook will be graduating this year, so this is their last season and one of their last games as members of the Sabres basketball team.

Morgan Cook says he has been attending Livingstone School since grade 3.  After graduating "I'm going to go to college in Kelowna, Kinesiology, sports.  I hope to be a trainer if I don't play sports at all."  His advice to younger players?  "Put in the practice."

"It's been an up and down season," said Sabres head coach Duane DeCock after the game.  "Ankle injuries, key guys have been six weeks down, so it's been a kind of a rollercoaster ride for us.  We're getting healthy, so hopefully we can finish off strong."

The Sabres will be participating in this weekend's post-season tournament, to be held at St. Michael's School for the boys games and Matthew Halton School for the girls games on Friday and Saturday March 7 and 8.
