Ponoka RCMP seeks assistance to locate missing girl

Missing: Kailyn Verquin
Ponoka RCMP are seeking the assistance in locating a missing youth from Ponoka. Kailyn Verquin (Age 15) was last seen on March 26th, 2014. She is believed to be in the Red Deer area. She is described as Caucasian, recently dyed purple hair, blue eyes height of 168 cm and weight of 50 kg. She was last seen wearing black sweat pants, blue knitted sweater and a black jacket.

Anybody who has information on Kailyn Verquin is asked to contact the Ponoka RCMP at (403)783-4471.

Lethbridge Police, dispatchers and corrections officers cycling for a cause

Members of the Lethbridge Regional Police Service, Lethbridge Public Safety Communications Centre and Lethbridge Correctional Centre, in partnership with the Law Enforcement Torch Run, are getting in gear to help raise money for Special Olympics.

On Saturday, April 5, 2013 bicycles will be set up in the Park Place Mall near the SportChek entrance and teams will be riding constantly from 10 a.m. when the mall opens until 6 p.m. when it closes. There will also be bikes set up for local Special Olympians who will take turns riding alongside the officers.

The Police Service thanks all of this year’s sponsors – the University of Lethbridge, Culligan Water, SportChek and Duane Goldie.

Donations can be made at the event or by calling 403-330-5020 or emailing blaine.stodolka@lrps.ca. All money raised will benefit local Special Olympics athletes.

During last year’s event $7,300 was raised and the goal this year is to match or exceed that amount.

Viking RCMP  investigating sudden death of young woman

On March 30, 2014 at approximately 6:30 pm, Viking RCMP officers were dispatched to the rear alley of a Viking residence to what appeared to be a deceased female found lying in the snow and not wearing winter clothing. It was soon determined that the young female was deceased and that she had attended a reception in the vicinity of where she was found.

Edmonton RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating this sudden death and an autopsy date and time has yet to be confirmed.

The deceased family has requested their loved one's identity not to be shared and would like their privacy at this time.

The investigation continues.

Drugs, money and weapons bust in Fort McMurray


On March 26th, 2014 Wood Buffalo RCMP executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant at an apartment in downtown Fort McMurray which resulted in the seizure of an estimated 2300 grams of synthetic cannabis and Canadian currency in excess of $215,000.00. Police also seized insecure weapons including a firearm. An expert in synthetic cannabis from Wood Buffalo A.L.E.R.T. section was called in to assist investigators.

Derek Twamley age 26 and Courtney Mul-Howard age 23, both of Fort McMurray have each been charged with the following offences:
  • Possession of a Similar Synthetic Preparation of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycontin
  • Possession of Marihuana
  • Possession of Proceeds of Crime
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm
  • Careless Storage of Ammunition
  • Possession of a Prohibited Magazine
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a License
Both Twamley and Mul-Howard have been released from police custody with conditions. Their court date is set for April 22nd, 2014 in Fort McMurray.

Grande Prairie Traffic Stop leads to arrest after driver fails to stop

A 19 year old male from Clairmont is facing a number of charges after he failed to stop for police and fled the scene of a collision earlier last evening.

Last evening, at approximately 5:15 p.m., RCMP attempted to stop a blue Ford F-150 after it was observed to have been driven in a dangerous manner in the area of 108th Street and 79th Avenue. The vehicle failed to stop for police and is believed to have continued south bound on 108th Street where it was reported to have been involved in at least one collision. The suspect vehicle continued on, failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

The suspect vehicle was spotted by police a short time later on Resources Road. Police again attempted to stop the vehicle. This time, the vehicle stopped but the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. The alleged driver was located and arrested without incident a short time later.

A 19 year old male from Clairmont is facing a variety of criminal charges and driving related offences under provincial statutes. A bail hearing is being held and police will provide an update on the charges and name of the accused later Monday morning.

RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or other driving offences committed by this vehicle to please contact the Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5701.

Cash and drugs seized, charges laid in Grande Prairie

A judicially authorized search of a residence has resulted in charges against a number of individuals, along with the seizure of drugs and cash.

On March 25, 2014 members from the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment executed a judicially authorized search warrant on a residence in the area of 102nd Street and 106th Avenue. As a result of the investigation police seized:
  • 24.7 grams of crystal meth (methamphetamines)
  • 2.1 grams of crack cocaine
  • 80.3 grams of marihuana

Brandon Sophius FULMES, a 31 year old male from Grande Prairie, who was also wanted on outstanding warrants for breach of probation and Breach of an Emergency Protection Order at the time of his arrest and Geoff MORGAN, a 49 year old male from Grande Prairie, have been charged with:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of proceeds of crime
Police also seized drug paraphernalia, packaging supplies, scales and approximately $4725 in cash.

FULMES did not speak to bail and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 31, 2014. MORGAN has been released on $3500 bail with conditions to abide by. MORGAN will also appear in Court on March 31, 2014.

A 40 year old male from Grande Prairie is also facing 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was released on a Promise to Appear. An information has not been sworn and as such his identity cannot be released at the present time. He is set to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on May 5, 2014.

Two adult females were also arrested at the time of the search but were not charged in relation to this investigation. One of the females had outstanding warrants for an unrelated theft.

Mischief in Lloydminster

The Lloydminster Municipal RCMP were called to a Mischief, whereby a picnic shelter located in Bud Miller Park was painted with black spray paint in the evening of March 18th, 2014 and early morning March 19th, 2014. The individual(s) responsible for this wrote derogatory messages, and drew offensive symbols over the entire shelter effectively rendering the shelter useless for anyone to enjoy.

RCMP believe the same individual(s) are responsible for a similar incident to a local church located on the 5400 block of 31 St, Lloydminster, AB.
