Calgary man dies from avalanche injuries
In the early morning hours of March 15, 2014 Peace Regional RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 2 just outside of Peace River, Alberta. A drug investigation was entered into and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 15 grams of marijuana and 689 grams or 1.5 pounds of cocaine. Estimated street value of the cocaine is $100,000.00 if sold at the gram level. Scott KYCA, age 27, of Peace River, Alberta has been charged with one count of Possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of Possession of a controlled substance. He is currently remanded into custody with a first appearance date of March 17, 2014.
In the early morning hours of March 15, 2014 Peace Regional RCMP entered into a drug investigation while conducting a traffic stop in the town of Grimshaw, Alberta. The investigation resulted in seizures of 170 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of ecstasy, a small amount of hash and $2800.00 of Canadian currency. Charged with one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, two counts of Possession of a controlled substance and one count of Possession of property obtained by crime is Zabrina Grimm, age 19 of Grimshaw, Alberta. She is currently released on cash bail and will appear in court in Peace River on April 16, 2014.
Officer assaulted, drugs seized, suspect held after Banff traffic stop
On March 13th 2014, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Banff RCMP were conducting routine traffic enforcement patrols along Highway 1 near the Town of Banff. A Chrysler Minivan was observed swerving. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by Police near the Norquay Overpass on Highway 1 Eastbound. Upon approaching the driver, the Police officer detected an odour of marihuana. The driver and lone occupant, was told to exit the vehicle. The male complied and was then told he was under arrest for Possession of a Controlled Substance. It is alleged then that the male resisted arrest, confronted the officer and started a physical altercation with him on the Highway. The male assaulted the Police officer in an effort to flee and returned to his vehicle. The officer deployed the Taser but the male continued to flee.
Approximately 1.5 kilometers further to the East on Highway 1, the male crashed the van into a snowbank. Once Police arrived on scene, they found the male driver outside of the van where he continued to refuse to listen to commands made by Police. Another physical confrontation ensued as Police Officers again attempted to arrest the male. Additional Police officers arrived to assist and were finally able to gain control of the male. He was then taken into custody.
Police located and seized:
Brett OGILVIE, 32 years old from Pitt Meadows, B.C., has been charged with the following:
Brett OGILVIE was Remanded into Custody and is set to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on March 19th, 2014.
The Police Officer allegedly assaulted by OGILVIE suffered no physical injuries as a result of the multiple physical altercations.

- Undisclosed amount of cash;

- Two counts Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking;
- One count Assault Peace Officer;
- One count Escape Lawful Custody;
- One count Possession of Property Obtained by Crime;
- One count Fail to Remain Stopped Until permitted to Leave by Police Officer (Traffic Safety Act);
- One count Fail to Drive in Centre of Traffic Lane (Use of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulation).
Brett OGILVIE was Remanded into Custody and is set to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on March 19th, 2014.
