Pincher Creek Skating Club celebrated half a century of excellence with the aptly named "50 Years On Ice" extravaganza at the MCC arena on March 22.

In addition to our local Canskate and Junior and Senior Starskate performers, SkateCanada presented a Section Showcase featuring 2014 Juvenile Dance Silver Medalists  Isabel McQuilkin and Jacob Portz, the 2014 Mountain Regional  Bronze Medalists Black and Gold Juvenile team from Calgary, 2014 Sectionals Novice Pair Bronze Medalists Bryn Hoffman and Bryce Chudak, Juvenile Women U11 2014 Sectionals Gold Medalist Shaylyn Jackson, and Juvenile Men U14 2014 Sectionals Silver Medalist Dawson Nodwell.

Local skater/singer/actress Alexandra Morgan kicked off the event with another wonderful rendition of 'O Canada'.  In a nod to the Pincher Creek Skating Club's 50th anniversary, the routines from our local skaters featured a selection of popular songs spanning the decades of the club's existence.  There were so many highlights... from beginners to medalists everyone gave their all over the course of two hours (with an intermission).

On Monday evening Pincher Creek Skating Club held an awards ceremony at Matthew Halton School.

"I think it was a really good year, I really do," said Coach Kim Civiero.  "I am really impressed at how much the CanSkaters have improved, and I thought Carnival was a great way to wrap it up."

Coaches Krystle Bordyschuk, Kim Civiero and Brooke Dorge were on hand to recognize the achievements of their skaters.  After the awards and report cards were handed out, there were photos, and mingling over refreshments.  This was not the end of the year for all of the skaters, as many have testing over the next two weeks in the Crowsnest Pass.
