Novice Chinooks astonish with 13-1 victory

Lloyd Lybbert

On Saturday March 1 the Pincher Creek Novice Chinooks played an exhibition game against the Crowsnest Pass Thunder.

This game was clearly one sided win for the Chinooks. They played very well with good passing and shooting, they also had a solid defense and a keen goalie who took a few shots, saving all but one.

The Thunder also had their moments with passing and shooting, but the Chinooks' defense was ready for them, so they had only a few shots on net. Thunder goalie Nathaniel Hewison,  even though scored on several times, had his moments, making some great saves.

The game started off with a quick goal by Pincher creek, surprising the Thunder. Then, halfway through the period after struggling and pushing through the defense at the blue line Pincher scored another goal to make it 2-0.

Even with the goals against starting to add up and playing with a much smaller bench the Thunder still didn't stop pushing, but still couldn't prevent the Chinooks from scoring 2 more times to end the period 4-0.

The Chinooks domnated the second period, starting with a breakaway goal by Drew Stuckey. Less than a minute later Aiden Potts scored an amazing from-the-redline goal for the Chinooks. This made the team even more excited than they were before. With some real teamwork, they got to the red line, past the defencemen and Jaxon Shenton scored another one. Several more Chinooks goals followed, and at the end of the second period they were ahead 11-0.

In the third period the Thunder stole the show when Kenna Lewis scored a great goal for them at the 8:30 mark.  However, the Chinooks added 5 more goals to the scoreboard for a final score of 13-1.

Scoring for the Chinooks were Shenoa Jessen with a hat trick and an assist, Jayden Draper with a goal and two assists, Mayz Vance with two goals and an assist, Jaxon Shenton with two goals and an assist, Drew Stuckey with a goal and an assist, Aiden Potts with a goal and two assists,  Joah Randall, Walker Anderson, and Lane Conley.  Maddix Dyck earned an assist and Nathan Mitchell earned two assists.
