Disgusted by the state of provincial politics

Sharon Duncan, Letter to the Editor

I am totally disgusted by what I am experiencing in the Political arena in our generally otherwise respected Province of Alberta.

Anyone who thinks that what is going on in Edmonton is good governance maybe wants to give their head a shake

It is all about the power hungry and they are everywhere, in every party and no one should get a pass. Before we have a free for all now, as a Conservative I am committed to sorting out our internal ills and moving forward with some sort of unity that highlights the good governance that we do.

Finally, I took the time to give some thought as to why it was that I had such a bad taste for the Wildrose Party considering that the polls seem to indicate that they are the new wave of the future, our saviours so as to speak. Well thanks, but no thanks. “If” I need to be saved, I prefer that it be by someone with a little integrity, not by self righteous indignation from a little band of bandolero’s, who, at most have spent the last few years spewing their vengeance at a party and individuals who proved the polls wrong in the last election. There’s nothing positive there, so maybe they should try listening to themselves for a change as all closets store “stuff”. It appears maybe the people did know what they were doing after all.

Be it that their job as opposition is to point out the errors of one’s ways, it’s quite another to kick them when they are down, and even yet, to waterboard them as well. Talk about bullying! The Wildrose Party is most certainly a part of that problem. It is no wonder that voters no longer care to go to the polls or most importantly why decent, qualified people choose not to run for public office.

  1. I agree that the state of Alberta provincial politics need some thorough housecleaning as does municipal and federal politics as well.
It does not necessarily mean all politicians of whatever stripe they may be or at what level of government they are in, are not decent, qualified people as indicated by the following statement in the above letter:

"most importantly why decent, qualified people choose not to run for public office."

It seems by what is being said as a blanket statement that there are no decent qualified people in any party. I disagree with that perception as well because in our free and democratic society who are we to deny people the right and privilege to step up to the plate. How do we know that they are not decent qualified people unless we know each and every one of them personally and have had personal dealings with them. I hope and pray people from every walk of life will continue to step up to the plate with their good intentions and high hopes to make a better world for all in our current democratic society. Than let each and every individual show by their words and their actions the quality of person they truly are no matter what patty they belong to. It is great that everyone has the opportunity to vote as well as participate at whatever level they feel comfortable at getting involved with.
