Public assistance requested to locate missing Pierceland Sask. man
Randy has now been missing for almost 7 months and have exhausted all investigational leads thus far. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Randy George is asked to contact the Pierceland RCMP at 306-839-3330 or your local police service or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477
Charges laid in fatal Cold Lake area hit and run
On December 19, 2011 a 27 year old man from Frog Lake, Alberta was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Casino Dene, located near Cold Lake, Alberta. The male, identified as 27 year old Gary Lee Curtis Lachance, was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital where he later died of head injuries. The investigation conducted by Cold Lake RCMP, RCMP Major Crime Section and St. Paul Forensic Identification Section at that time did not reveal any suspects at the time.
On February 22, 2014, 50-year-old, Wayne Kytwayhat turned himself in at the Leduc RCMP Detachment. Kytwayhat has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident in connection to this investigation. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in St. Paul on February 27, 2014.
RCMP continue to seek the public's assistance and are encouraging anyone who may have information to come forward. Anyone with information can call Cold Lake RCMP at 780-594-3302. Valleyview teen charged with fatal hit and run
On February 20 2014 at 04:50 A.M. Valleyview RCMP received a complaint of a male lying in the middle of 69 Road. RCMP attended to find Percy Papastesis aged 32 of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation Reserve deceased. Preliminary investigation led investigators to believe Papastesis was struck by a vehicle.
On February 22 2014 Valleyview RCMP located a 2005 Dodge Caravan in the town of Valleyview with front end damage. The Dodge Caravan was seized and further investigation lead to the arrest of the driver.
Charged with Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident under Sec 252(1.2) of the Criminal Code is Jesse Aaron Derksen aged 19 of Valleyview. Derksen has been released from custody and is to appear in Valleyview Provincial Court on March 6th 2014 at 10:00.
Lethbridge dial-a-dope/stolen property operation busted
Members of the ALERT Lethbridge Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) concluded a short-term drug investigation into a dial-a-dope operation last week recovering drugs and a significant quantity of stolen property.
On February 20, 2014 police executed a search warrant at a home along the 900 block of 8 Street North. A male and female were arrested without incident and police recovered small quantities of narcotic pain medication and crack cocaine, along with cash and nearly $20,000 worth of stolen property.
The stolen property consists of electronics (televisions, laptops, tablets, game consoles), clothing, jewelry, pellet guns and other items.
Police believe the property was provided in exchange for drugs.
Mark Anthony Brown, 44, of Lethbridge and Janel Dawn Donovan, 32, of Lethbridge, are charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance and possession of the proceeds of crime. Both made their first court appearances last week.
CFSEU-Lethbridge is an ALERT team established and funded by the Government of Alberta to bring together the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources to tackle serious and organized crime. Nearly 400 municipal police, RCMP, and sheriffs work for ALERT.
Suspected Spruce Grove/Stony Plain mail box bandit arrested
Throughout January and February of this year, there were 25 reported thefts from mailboxes in the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain area. An extensive investigation ensued by the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain Target Team, which resulted in the February 20 arrest of 26 year-old Daniel Thomas HARRIS of the Parkland County area.
In total, Daniel HARRIS stands charged with 88 offences:
Police allege Daniel HARRIS broke into community mail boxes and apartment building mail boxes, stealing mail and parcels. He altered personal and government cheques, and made attempts to cash these in his name.
He has been remanded into custody, and will make his first court appearance on February 26 in Stony Plain Provincial Court.
Sudden death near Gregoire Lake deemed unsuspicious
At approximately 12:30 pm on February 21, Wood Buffalo RCMP officers were called to assist EMS as a male was located near Gregoire Lake, outside and in the snow with severe injuries. Upon police arrival the male had already been air lifted to the Northern Lights Regional Hospital where he later died.
On Monday, February 24 an autopsy was conducted. Reports indicate that the cause of death was a combination of medical factors and cold weather exposure. The scene has since been released by the Wood Buffalo RCMP and the investigation has been concluded.
Innisfail RCMP is asking for the public's assistance in solving a crime in which person(s) broke into and stole over 30 Antique signs from the Community Hall in Spruceview, AB. The signs were Vintage assorted Pepsi, Crush, Coca Cola, Tobacco type, set up for an Auction that was taking place that day. The estimated total value of the signs is approximately $30 000 to $40 000. The incident occurred between the hours of midnight to 8:00 am on February 23, 2014. The RCMP is asking the community to report any suspicious persons or vehicles that they observed in the area between the times in question.

Valuable antique signs stolen from Spruceview Community Hall
During the weekend of February 21 to 23, officers of the Wood Buffalo Municipal Traffic Unit conducted a traffic operation on the ice road to Fort Chipewyan as well as in the community. Officers departed Fort McMurray on Friday, patrolling the ice road and then remained in Fort Chipewyan to conduct patrols on Saturday. Officers returned to Fort McMurray on Sunday, patrolling the ice road again.
As a result of the traffic enforcement, 34 provincial violations were issued along with several Criminal Code charges including:
- 1 impaired refusal
- 1 24 hour suspension
- 2 suspended drivers
- 1 Controlled Drug and Substances Act charges
RCMP would like to remind motorists that although ice roads are temporary the rules of the road and the Highway Traffic Act still apply.
Strathmore welding cable thief sought
At approximately 2:00 A.M. on February 2, 2014, an unknown male suspect drove into the parking lot of the Days Inn in Strathmore and parked at the back of the building. The male walked through the hotel lobby, then returned to his vehicle and drove around to the front of the building where he stole copper welding cable from another parked vehicle. The male was driving a small white automobile. The suspect is approximately 6 feet tall with short dark hair, wearing black jeans, blue t-shirt, black hoodie with a red logo, black ball cap and grey sneakers.
At approximately 2:00 A.M. on February 2, 2014, an unknown male suspect drove into the parking lot of the Days Inn in Strathmore and parked at the back of the building.
