Online Economic Dashboard unveiled by Alberta government

A new  Economic Dashboard for Alberta is now online.  According to a recent Government of Alberta press release,  "Alberta will be the first jurisdiction in Canada and one of only a few in North America to offer comprehensive provincial economic information online."

The Dashboard provides 26 economic metrics specific to the Alberta economy and will be updated on a near-daily basis.  Metrics include indicators such as gross domestic product, natural resources prices and employment. The metrics also include historical time series charts that visually show performance over many years.

The Dashboard’s data is available to Albertans on the Open Data Portal.

“We recognize that businesses and entrepreneurs today expect timely and relevant information so they can make decisions that advance their work. The Economic Dashboard brings Alberta’s business information online to one fast access spot, making it easier for potential investors to navigate statistics, identify trends, draw comparisons to other jurisdictions and invest in our economy.” - Dave Hancock, Deputy Premier and Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education
“I make hundreds of presentations a year on Alberta’s economy and I know that a portal like this will be well-received by the business community. This online source brings together the most current statistics from a number of sources and saves the user time. Simple, quick access to economic data makes it easier to attract investment and market Alberta as a place to do business.”- Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial
“Startup Edmonton supports entrepreneurs and small businesses by providing a space where they can meet, share ideas and innovate. This is the perfect setting to host the launch of this new online information source that includes open data. Providing easier access to this data can spark new ideas amongst Alberta entrepreneurs – whether it be a new application or service.”- Ken Bautista, CEO and Co-Founder, Startup Edmonton
The Dashboard replaces the longstanding Monthly Economic Review report that documents available economic statistics in monthly hard copy and electronic formats.
