Genealogy is the study of family lineage and history. The Pincher Creek Genealogy Club meets once a month on the last Monday of the month at Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village. "It's the fastest growing hobby in the world," said organizer Pauline Breeze, who was at the Ranchland Mall on Thursday, January 23. Club members will be in the mall again on Friday, January 24 to answer questions about genealogy and sign people up as members.

The club holds memberships with a few highly reputable online genealogy websites and have access to the museum archives, making investigations easier. "People online have been very generous. Many share photos and other information," said Breeze about her own experience in searching her own roots. She has now been able to verify her family line back to 1025 AD, and has many photos and records about her personal family tree. It isn't just about the past, as in the process Breeze is now more aware of current family members that she is related to, and where they are all over the globe. "It's very rewarding."

Recognizing that many people have limited time but still have the inclination to uncover their past museum, staff can research histories for a fee.

Contact Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village at 403-627-3684 for more information or to join the club.
