Southern Alberta Summer Games planning underway

Toni Lucas - With the Southern Alberta Summer Games (SASG) coming to Pincher Creek July 2 through July 5, 2014, action is well underway behind the scenes.  Each sport has worked out a budget  for their event.  Logos are in the design stage.  An executive has been established,  including chairpersons for most of the sports, although some of the chairs are still not confirmed.  "We would like to get the community engaged in this," said  Pincher Creek Recreation Manager Adam Grose, who is very excited about the progress.

"The games bring in 2,000 athletes into the community, and that is just the athletes.  Then there is family, and spectators."

Venues have been toured and evaluated.  Some venues have come up short and need some work.  The executive is currently looking for businesses and individuals that can help spruce up the sites where events will be held.  One example would be having the volleyball sand pits dug out and re-done.

The executive estimates that there will need to be between 400 to 500 volunteers to have everything run smoothly.  They are open to ideas to make the 45th SASG a spectacular and memorable event.  Sports are the driving force of the games but their is more to consider, such as culture, history, and artistic endeavours.

They are working toward a balance between ceremonial, informative, humorous, and memorable.
