Livingstone School's Senior A Boys Sabres basketball team hosted Piikani's Redskins on Thursday January 16.  The Sabres won by a wide margin, 104-58.

Split-second timing and tight teamwork were once again hallmarks of the Sabres' game.  They were strong on both offense and defense.  They share the ball, keeping an eye out at all times for who is open for the best shot, and none of them are afraid to take that shot if they are the one in the best position to do so.  They treat the defensive zone as a fluid area and are aware of the positioning of their own players and their opponents.  The Redskins got off to a slow start and it took them some time to adapt to the speed and intensity of the Sabres' game.

Sabres #23 Eric Cadonic sustained an ankle injury in the second quarter, putting him out of the rest of the game, but managed to score 12 points before that happened.  Unfortunately, the injury may force him to abstain form the Foremost tournament this weekend. Top scorer in the game was Sabres #10 Chad Cadonic with 25 points, including a dramatic long shot at the end of the first quarter buzzer.  #5 Ross Cook scored 21 points and #15 Morgan Cook scored 18 points.

Redskins #0 Josh CrossChild scored 16 points and #5 Johnny North Peigan scored 15 points.  #22 Fred Small Legs scored 10 points and was very strong defensively.

According to Sabres Coach Duane DeCock "This will be their 9th game, counting tournaments. This will be our 5th league game.  We've been doing good, for the 15th of January.  We're 5-and-0."

"We started off today really well.  We had lots of intensity, but we got a little sloppy at the end.  Overall, it was very good. We have a really important tournament tomorrow in Foremost."

Redskins Coach Barnaby Provost was pragmatic about the team's loss.  "The Sabres are one of the top 10 ten in the province.  They have a good offensive sets and good coaching," he said.   "We have a little more work to do.  We need to be a little more focused."

"We were trying to adjust to their offense.  Because we weren't aware of their offense, I called time out.  They had made a quick ten points off of their offense.  Give and go, pass the ball, go down the middle, shoot and score.  We had to make adjustments.  They are a good team."
