Several RCMP detachments joined together to contribute to this operation including Wood Buffalo RCMP plus Saskatchewan RCMP Detachments from La Loche, Swift Current and North Battleford. Other law enforcement partners included the Alberta Commercial Vehicle Enforcement. Members of the operation were out conducting roving traffic enforcement.
The Alberta RCMP results of the traffic enforcement initiative included checking approximately 300 vehicles which resulted in the following; 1 Impaired Driving offence, 1 Firearms offence, 1 charge under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act , 1 charge of Breach of Conditions, 2 Outstanding Warrants executed, a 24 Hour Suspension issued, 23 tickets under the Traffic Safety Act issued for different offences, and 4 vehicles were towed for various issues.

The Grande Prairie Integrated Traffic Unit, comprised of Alberta Traffic Sheriff’s and RCMP members have been kept busy lately with people in a real hurry! With the roads improving, some folks thought it would be safe to see how fast they can drive their cars on local highways.
Along with the usual traffic work, ITU members caught 10 people last weekend travelling at excessive speeds. One individual was caught travelling at 85 KPH over the posted limit, and several were caught at 60 and 70 KPH over with the others ranging from 50 to 70 KPH over the posted limit.
Excessive speed on our highways is a leading cause of death and serious injury. Every kilometre you travel over the speed limit reduces your chances of surviving a crash and also endangers the other road users who are obeying the law.
People caught and charged with excessive speed are required to attend court and will face substantial fines, suspensions and insurance rate hikes that stay with them long after the fact.
