RCMP Calgary Financial Integrity charge two in multi-million dollar fraud investigation

The Calgary RCMP Financial Integrity Unit has completed their investigation into a commercial real estate venture operated by Concrete Equities Inc. The funds were raised through Offering Memorandums and were RRSP eligible. Concrete Equities Inc. and all of their related corporations went into receivership in 2009.

David HUMENIUK is also charged alone with one count of theft and money laundering for taking $1 million of investors’ funds for his personal use. The loss to investors as a result of this fraud and theft exceeds $23 million.

Varun AURORA and David Nelson HUMENIUK have been charged with three counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count of theft over $5,000. HUMENIUK has been charged alone with an additional theft over $5,000 and one count of money laundering.

Boy struck by vehicle at Strathmore school crosswalk

On January 20th 2014, Strathmore RCMP responded to reports of a pedestrian that was struck in a crosswalk at the Westmount Elementary School. Upon attending, police discovered that a 9 year old boy had been struck by a southbound pickup truck inside the school zone. The boy suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital where he was later released. The 21 year old female driver of the pickup truck was charged with failing to yield to a pedestrian inside a crosswalk. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision. Visibility was good in the area, but roads were icy at the time. Police remind drivers to take their time while in school zones, be alert to pedestrians, and drive only as fast as the road conditions allow.

Hit and Run near Atmore

On January 14th, 2014 at approximately 4:30 AM Boyle RCMP received a report of a hit and run collision occurring on Highway 63 at kilometre marker 108 (108 km north of Atmore, AB). A five tonne cube truck and a semi tractor trailer collided on an undivided section of Highway north of House River. The southbound semi tractor trailer unit was passing a passenger vehicle while cresting a hill when it collided with the northbound cube truck in the northbound lane. The collision forced the cube truck into the ditch with significant damage.

The southbound semi tractor trailer unit continued southbound and did not stop at the collision scene.

RCMP are looking to identify the operator of the semi tractor as well as speak to the witness of this collision who was driving the passenger vehicle. The passenger vehicle is described as being an SUV or pickup truck. The semi tractor is believed to be red in colour and was hauling a 53 foot dry goods style semi trailer. The semi trailer was struck on the driver side and lost a tire on the rear axle. It is believed the box trailer would have also sustained some damage as a result of this collision.

No injuries were reported.

Any person having information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Boyle RCMP Detachment at 780-689-4081 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
