St. Michael's Junior A Girls basketball team hosted Nanton's J.T. Foster Raiders in the Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium on the evening of Tuesday, January 14.  The Dragons won the game, but for the first three quarters it looked like it could go either way.

The Dragons had a points edge right from the start of the game, but the Raiders are aggressive, fast, and determined.

Dragon #14 Eileen was the game high scorer with 14 points.  Dragon #11 Ashtyn  made the basket that won the hearts of the audience at the end of the 2nd quarter, sinking it right at the buzzer.  Kudos to #5 Sydney.  She traveled fast, was aware of her teammates movements, and was tenacious with the ball when she had it.

On the Raiders #11 Shayna stood out in more than one way.  She stood a half a head above the rest of the team and during her game time she tied teammate #33 Bri for the team's high scores for the game.  Shayna is someone to watch in the future as she sees openings and will do the best to score for her team every chance she gets.

The Dragons were  leading by a slim two point difference at the end of the first quarter.  At the end of both the second and third quarter the Dragons were again in the lead,  but each time only by 5 points.   The Dragon girls worked hard in the fourth to widen the spread, winning the game 31 - 17.

An exciting change for the Dragons is that they have been elevated from a 'B' team last season to an 'A' team for this season.  "Sometimes it's good, and to our advantage, other times, not so much," said Coach Nichole Little Mustache.  This is her second seasons coaching this team, and she is very happy with the work that the girls have done.  "They've definitely grown a lot and improved a lot."
