Isaak of the Junior A Dragons scores vs Kainai

The Dale Memorial Gymnasium at St. Michael's School was the scene of two basketball games on Thursday evening January 23.

The first game was between the Jr. B Dragons Boys and Kainai's Eagles. The Dragons won that game by a significant margin, scoring seemingly at will throughout. 

Junior B Dragons vs Kainai

The second game was between the Dragons A Boys team and Kainai's warriors. The Dragons won that game 55-32, but it was a much more balanced match than the B game was. The Dragons took a 6 point lead almost immediately before #23 Wyatt put his Warriors team on the board. Wyatt proved to be a phenom, driving his team's success and lifting their spirits regularly, particularly in the final quarter when he did hs utmost to turn the game around for the Warriors. He was the top scorer in the game with 21 points.


Michael was the top scorer for the Dragons with 15 points, followed by teammate Mitchell with 14 points and Calvin with 9 points. What really won the game for the Dragons was superior teamwork. They were very strong defensively, forcing the Warriors to squander opportunities for long shots. The Dragons were also strong offensively, passing intelligently and seemingly with an eye towards the team's success over individual triumphs.


Members of both Kainai teams played with a great deal of heart and enthusiasm, and the raw talent is there. I suspect at least one of these teams will make the most improved list by the end of the season.
