The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign annual fundraiser has begun in Pincher Creek for the 2013 Christmas season.

The distinctive kettle fundraiser was started in 1891 in San Francisco by Captain Joseph McFee.  He collected  money in a large pot and encouraged people to 'Keep the Pot Boiling'.  He used the funds collected to feed the poor at Christmas time.  Now the campaign is recognized worldwide and is one of the biggest fundraising drives in Canada to help those in financial hardship throughout the year.

One of the challenges that the organization faces now is that many people don't carry cash anymore.

Collection kettles were set up at the Ranchland Mall and Walmart  on Friday December 13, and will return Saturday December 14 from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.  They will return to both of these locations again on December 20 and 21.  In addition the Legion will have a kettle available during their normal hours of operation.
