The Pincher Creek CanSkate program held their last event of 2013 at the MCC Arena on Wednesday, December 18. The kids worked on their skating while parents assembled a snack banquet and coaches Kim Civiero and Brooke Dorge finished report cards.

Early in the program everyone was out on the ice, including moms and dads, and brothers and sisters, making this a very fun and happy family occasion.

More experienced skaters including Erica Nemeth helped out those that are a little unsteady on their blades.

Santa Claus sharpened his skates and made a surprise appearance on the ice. He glided around the arena, giving out treats and visiting with the kids. After that everyone adjourned to the lobby for snacks.

Once everyone had their fill or prepped a plate they headed back in to the arena to watch a few of the students demonstrating routines they've been working on.

This demonstration showed an excellent cross range of local talent that will be performing in the annual Skate Carnival that is scheduled for March 22, 2014. Pincher Creek has been selected to host the Sectional Showcase for Carnival in the spring. This means there will be some guest appearances and impressive displays on the ice featured during the event.

"This is the 50th anniversary of the Pincher Creek Skating Club," said Alison Mahli who volunteers for the club. Does that mean the hockey teams might help during the Carnival, as they have sometimes in the past? No definite answers to that question yet.
