Lorna MacKinnon adds a special decoration to the tree at Pincher Creek Health Centre |
Pincher Creek is a town with a lot of heart, and is not afraid to show it. A week before Christmas, community response to the Trees of Hope campaign has already reached $16,500 and is poised to become the most successful campaign ever. The $18,705 raised in 2012 set the current record for the Trees of Hope, now in its 23rd year of enhancing services at Pincher Creek Health Centre through Windy Slopes Health Foundation.
“We’re so grateful to the people of Pincher Creek and district for their support all year,” said Foundation Chair Donna Schauerte, “but especially now during the season of giving.” Trees of Hope allows donors to honour the memory of a loved one or send seasonal greetings on a special decoration hung on the tree in Pincher Creek Health Centre’s foyer.
Funds raised this year support enhancements and renovation of the Emergency Department at Pincher Creek Health Centre. Site Manager Jordan Koch says the project under development “…will provide greater privacy for patients and their families, and that’s very important in what can be a stressful environment. It’ll also make the work area even more secure and efficient.”
The Foundation is already halfway to their $450,000 goal for this project, which will continue to be the main focus of fundraising in 2014. “We’ll be launching a new event in 2014, and talking to many organizations and individuals in the community about the ER project,” Schauerte said.
