The Junior A and B Girls Hawks squads hosted their counterparts from Claresholm's Willow Creek Composite High School (WCHHS) Cobras for an evening of basketball yesterday evening, December 10.

The B Hawks won their game by a score of 23-15.  WCCHS won the A game by a score of 23-12.

Video of the B game:

Maia Jorgenson was the top scorer for the A Hawks with 6 points (and quite a few near misses).  Also scoring for the Hawks were Shelby Kaupp, Eryka Bruder and Leigh Erickson.  Emma Dietze came very close several times, expect to see her light up the scoreboard as the season unfolds. All told, a solid team effort by the A Hawks.

Beyonce Crowshoe was the top scorer for the B Hawks with 9 points.

B Hawks coach Renee Van Loon was obviously pleased with the result of their game. "This was our first game of the season, and we won!  It was very good, it was very close," she said.  "We have got 7 girls, a very short bench.  So hopefully, it's a healthy season.

"They were playing really tight man to man defense, one thing they could improve on is following through on their shots."

"It was a great first game.  The girls played really hard, and they're already improving, so we'll see how the next game goes."

Students Meghan McGlynn and Kate Nicas were filling in as coaches for the A girls, and did an admirable job of it.

Upcoming:
The next home game for the Hawks A and B girls is scheduled for Thursday, December 12 vs Fort Macleod, starting at 4:00 pm.
