The South Western Junior High Athletic Association  (SWJHAA) "B" Girls Post-Season volleyball Tournament was held at Matthew Halton High School in Pincher Creek on Saturday, November 2.

Participants included Willow Creek Composite High Cobras, St. Michael's Dragons, Crowsnest Pass Pandas, Kainai Lady Warriors, Matthew Halton Hawks, JT Foster Raiders and two teams of FP Walshe Flyers.  The winners of the first four games would advance to the semi finals.

The first match of the day had the Cobras and Dragons in competition with each other.  The Cobras took the first two sets by a wide margin to advance to the semifinal.

The Lady Warriors challenged the Pandas during the second match of the day.  The Warriors won the first set 25 - 18.  The Pandas came back and won the next match 25 - 14.  The third set was very close with the Pandas winning the set 15 - 12 for the match.

The host team Hawks squared off against the Flyers (Team 2).  The Flyers took the first set 25 - 16.  The teams reversed their fortunes and the next set it was the Hawks up 25 - 16.  The final set went to the Flyers, having to go beyond the 15 points for a win to 18 - 16, as they needed a two point advantage to take the match.

JTF Raiders
Flyers (Team 1) opposed the Raiders. The Flyers took the first and second sets by a wide margin, winning the right to continue on to the semifinals.

In the first match of the semi final the Cobras and Pandas challenged each other with a good game.

Pandas vs Cobras

Although close in points the Cobras prevailed in both sets, ensuring them a chance at the championship.

Flyers teams 1 and 2

The second semifinal match worked out that the Flyers (Team 1) faced Flyers (Team 2).  This is not the first time that the two teams faced each other in the season, but some of the girls admitted it is always a little uncomfortable when it happens.  The first set had Team 2 ahead 26 - 24.  Even though Team 1 fought hard Team 2 took the final set 25 - 23 and advanced to the championship round.

2nd place:  F.P. Walshe Flyers team 2

The Cobras faced Flyers (team 2) for the final championship round of the day.  The Cobras put on an early lead in the first set and stayed there, winning the set 25 - 20.  The Cobras were victorious in the second set by 25 - 21 winning the match and the championship banner.

Halton Hawks Coaches Renee Van Loon and Randy Whitehead were happy with the way the day turned out.  Whithead has seen all of these teams throughout the season and remarked on how much improvement has gone on for all the teams.  "The growth has been good."  With this being a post-season match pressure was less a part of the equation, which seemed to allow the participants the chance to relax and get back to just playing the sport for the enjoyment of it.

Thank you to the many volunteers
