Search Warrant for Stolen Property in Olds leads to charges

On November 8, 2013, the Olds RCMP detachment executed a search warrant at 5129 51st street, Olds, Alberta, searching for stolen property.   The Olds RCMP detachment had an on-going investigation relating to property offences which had been occurring throughout central Alberta.

The investigation began during a traffic stop which had been conducted in Sundre, Alberta, on October 28,  2013, by the Sundre RCMP detachment members.  During this traffic stop, the investigating member determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from Olds, Alberta, and it had been loaded with stolen property including various tools, electronics and copper wire.

On October 30, 2013, Sundre RCMP members furthered their investigation and executed a search warrant at a Sundre motel room which resulted in the recovery of a large amount of stolen property.

As a result of the Sundre RCMP’s investigation two males, Jason FURLONG (39) and Kevin LEISCHNER (42) were charged with multiple counts of theft, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Break in tools and Obstruction of a Peace Officer.

Following Sundre RCMP’s investigations, Olds RCMP attended to a rural Olds property with Three Hills RCMP members and recovered several items which had been stolen from various businesses in the Olds and Innisfail areas.

Olds and Innisfail RCMP detachment members continued to identify persons involved in property related offences.  The investigation resulted in the issuance of a Search Warrant which was then executed in Olds, Alberta, on November 8, 2013.

Olds RCMP searched the property situated and 5129 51st street, Olds, Alberta.  Due to air quality concerns, Olds Fire Department was called to assist and monitor the air quality while RCMP members searched the premises and garage.  As a result of the search, an estimated $30,000.00 - $40,000.00 of stolen property has been recovered.  The items include; tires, stereo equipment, tools, power tools, gardening tools, gardening chemicals and a firearm.  Many of the items were determined to be stolen from businesses in Sundre, Innisfail and as far away as Rocky Mountain House.

One female had been in custody in relation to the stolen property and a male is currently being sought in relation to these offences.  Arrest warrants are being applied for at the time of this release.

The Olds RCMP detachment is continuing this investigation and further charges may be laid in relation to property related offences.

Search warrant nets multiple charges for Spruce Grove man

On October 30th, 2013, the RCMP Spruce Grove/Stony Plain Drug Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in Spruce Grove.  Multiple items were seized, including:
  • 25.9 grams of methamphetamine, packaged in bags
  • 1.1 grams of cocaine in a small bag
  • stolen ID, passport, Social Insurance Card, and credit card
  • stolen loaded 12 gauge shotgun
  • stolen .308 rifle
  • a stolen Kawasaki motorcycle
No one was home at the time the search warrant was executed, and a warrant was obtained for the resident of this property.  On November 5th, police arrested and charged 29 year-old Patrick Devin REID of Spruce Grove.  He appeared before a Justice of the Peace, and was released on $800 cash bail with various conditions.  His first court appearance is November 15th in Stony Plain Provincial Court.
Patrick REID is facing the following charges:
  • possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking
  • possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking
  • breach of recognizance
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace x 2
  • possession of a firearm without a licence x 2
  • careless storage of a firearm x 2
  • possession of a firearm obtained by crime x 2
  • possession of property obtained by crime x 7
  • REID has a lengthy criminal history, for similar offences.
RCMP have noted an increase in the prevalence of methamphetamine in the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain Detachment area.  Coupled with this is a trend towards increased property crime and weapons offence.  Vehicle and residential break-ins typically occur to support drug activity.  Further, drug trafficking is a high-risk activity that often sees traffickers arming themselves with weapons such as firearms, knives, or bats.  This is very concerning to police, and the subsequent impact on public safety cannot be understated.

Police recover over $200,000 in stolen property in Grande Prairie and Wembley
Yesterday afternoon RCMP conducted judicially authorized search warrants in three separate locations in Grande Prairie and Wembley.  As a result of the investigation, over $200,000 in stolen property has been recovered.]
At approximately 12:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Grande Prairie RCMP, including police officers from Beaverlodge and assistance from  the RCMP's auto theft section, conducted judicially authorized search warrants at two locations in Wembley and one business in Grande Prairie.  As a result of the investigation, police have recovered a variety of stolen property believed to be worth in excess of $200,000.
Included in the items recovered were a stun gun, holiday trailers, a jet boat and trailer, 1 automobile, several flat deck and covered trailers, quads, street bikes, licence plates (including dealer plates), and a variety parts and accessories that are believed to be stolen.  RCMP have identified and contacted all the owners to notify them that their property has been recovered.
Two people were initially arrested at the scenes but have since been released without charges.  RCMP believe that this stolen property is part of a larger sophisticated theft operation that is occurring throughout the province.  Making the investigations particularly challenging are indications that the suspects are falsifying vehicle identification numbers and tags which is making it harder to readily detect that these items are in fact stolen.
The RCMP investigation continues.
