Melissa Mathieson, a life-long High River resident, researcher at The School of Public Policy and former Prime Minister’s Office staffer, will announce the launch of her campaign to seek the nomination for the Conservative Party in the federal riding of Macleod. The official launch will take place with supporters at The George in Okotoks next Tuesday November 12th. Her website will also launch that day.

Mathieson, who has been a volunteer in Macleod since she was 13 years old and cites Preston Manning and Ralph Klein as her political inspirations, is steeped in the grassroots, fiscal conservatism and common sense politics that defines Macleod. “Fiscal conservatism is a bedrock value in this part of Alberta. People around here just don’t believe that government should spend more than they take in – neither do I,” she said today.

“I’ve been passionate about my part of Alberta and politics for as long as I remember. Ted Menzies’ decision to not run in the next election creates an incredible opportunity for me to use the experience I’ve gained already in Ottawa; to hit the ground running, to represent the grassroots values that of this riding and to bring youth and energy to Ottawa. You know, there are some people, like Justin Trudeau, who think they have a lock on the youth vote in this country. I think they’re wrong and I intend to prove it. Sending me to Ottawa would send a message for coast to coast that Canadian youth are the constituency of the Conservative Party. Youth are the future of this party and we will win their vote,” concluded Mathieson.
