Napi Friendship Center Executive Director Sandra Gibbs said she is very pleased to say that the Joint Council Funding Committee has awarded a total close to $24,000 to the Pincher Creek Food Bank.
The letter that Gibbs received called for over $19,000 to be used in the operations of the Food Bank and $5,000 toward the flooring. "To see this movement from the Council is incredible, it will make such a difference."
The Pincher Creek Food Bank is relocating to 756 Kettles Street, which previously housed Bridges Natural Foods. With Christmas coming up, and the floor not yet installed the situation appeared difficult. "It's a huge relief," said Gibbs. The coordinator had been laid off during the interm because the food bank was currently not operating and also to save money.
Gibbs is confident now that the Food Bank will open on December 2. Already Gibbs is looking past the flooring and the opening of the building. She is starting to plan what will be required to fill the needs for Christmas hampers by way of volunteers and donations.
