Bisons thunder past Rockies

Frank McTighe, Macleod Gazette Editor

The Southwest Rockies dug themselves a deep hole Saturday, October 12 and never climbed out.

The Rockies let Foothills Bisons build a 5-0 lead at Nanton Arena and the host team skated to a 9-3 South Central Alberta Bantam AA Hockey League win.

The loss dropped the Rockies record to 0-4-1.

The Rockies are on the road Saturday, October 19 at Medicine Hat and Sunday, October 20 at Okotoks.

The Bisons scored twice in the opening four minutes of the game and took that 2-0 lead into the dressing room.

Foothills then notched the first three goals of the second period to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Rockies finally got on the scoreboard mid way through the second frame when defenceman Turner Sharp’s slapper found its way through a crowd into the back of the net.

The Bisons scored again with 3:41 left in the period but the Rockies got that one back a couple minutes later when K’s Thomson set up Colten Mead for his first goal of the season.

Any lift the Rockies might have got from that goal evaporated when Tucker Zdunich scored his third of the game for the Bisons with just over a minute left in the third period.

The Bisons made it 8-2 on a powerplay goal mid way through the third period.

The Rockies got a powerplay goal of their own three minutes later from Nic Jordan, with Thomson and Chase Snider assisting.

The Bisons closed out the scoring with a powerplay goal with 3:27 left to make the final 9-3.
Sean Park played two periods in goal for the Rockies, facing 57 shots. Kyle Roberts played their third period in relief, facing 13 shots.

The Bisons outshot the Rockies 70-21.
