Southern Alberta will stay just a bit warmer this winter thanks to a group of girls and women who have quilted and donated almost 70 quilts across Southern Alberta as part of a centennial service project. All Girl Guide of Canada members in Alberta are encouraged to make quilts of all sizes and donate them to local organizations such as a children's ward in a hospital, seniors' lodges, homeless shelters or anywhere there is a need.

Our goal is to make and donate 1200 quilts as part of the service project across Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon. This service project has provided girls and adult members alike a way to learn new valuable “hands-on” skills, and an opportunity to increase their awareness about the role that charitable organizations play in our community.

This summer, adult members Margaret Arnold, Audrey Simmonds, Ciska Peterson, Florrie Gillett, Peggy Foisy, Donna Bareham, Cheryl Ali, Kathy Ludwig, Bev McKillop, and Doreen Gyorkos donated a whopping total of 44 quilts to a variety of locations across Lethbridge. Their beautiful work was greatly appreciated, and the donations will be treasured for years to come!

  • 4 to Palliative Care
  • 15 to the Lethbridge Regional hospital
  • 5 to the Lethbridge Humane Society, including some extra towels
  • 11 to Woods Homes
  • 9 to Harbour House
