The Huntington Society of Canada's first fundraiser, called 'Grassroots to Mountaintops', was held on August 31 across Canada marked the society's 40th anniversary.

The local component of this endeavour was the Corner Mountain Climb.  Organizer Bev Everts explained that the society hoped to raise awareness of the disease and gather funds for support and research.

The event was a huge success with over $24,500 raised for the Huntington Society of Canada locally. According to Everts the hikers numbered close to 200 people.  Many were there to support Cas Freeman of Pincher Creek and to celebrate her 60th birthday.

"So many people were hiking and dancing, it was a great time.  Reaching the top was magnificent," said Everts.

The CEO of the Huntington Society of Canada Bev Heim-Myers sent a letter to Everts expressing her delight at the overwhelming support this community gave to the cause, and saying that this may become an annual event due to the fantastic success across Canada. That success is remarkable and to which all the Corner Mountain Climbers contributed toward. Body, mind and soul.
