The first Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope in Pincher Creek had a great turnout on Sunday September 8. Over 12 teams signed up, as well as some individuals.  There were many reasons why people joined in.  Some were supporting friends or family, some were remembering women that have left their lives because of this cancer.  Volunteers estimated that the walk had over 100 participants.

Pincher Creek Medical Clinic staff created a team called "Ovary Fun Gals, and a Guy".  They estimate that they have earned about  $2,700 with their team, with more donations possibly coming in.  "Team Duck" consisted of Chrissy, Amanda, and Lori. They were walking in honour of Chrissy's aunt and Lori's sister that has been gone for 10 years because of this cancer.  Some teams had several generations of family walking together.

Organizer Leslie Claringbull spoke to the crowd gathered at the arch of teal and white balloons that marked the start of the walk.   "I'm overwhelmed by your support and generosity. In September of 2012 my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.  I was shocked with what I didn't know."

Claringbull reminded everyone that this a part of a larger movement.  "Here we are today joining 45 other cities across Canada raising funds and awareness."

Two Ovarian Cancer survivors that were on the walk were Christine Lafreniere and Marlene Bourque.  They were each presented with a survivor pin and a medallion.  Lafreniere has been a survivor for 20 years, and Bourque has been cancer free since July, 2013.

Glitter tattoos and balloons helped create a festive atmosphere
There were amusements for the kids, and a beef on a bun lunch after the walk.
