Athlete of the day September 6, 2013: Emma English

Steer Rider Emma English
Emma English is a 16 year old resident of Piikani Nation.  She's attending her last year of high school at Matthew Halton.

Emma's a barrel racer and a steer rider.  She was demonstrating her talent in both activities at the Piikani Youth Rodeo at the Crowlodge Arena in Brocket on Wednesday September 4. She said her first time on a steer happened last year, after somebody dared her.  "I was so scared, but it was such a rush," she expalained, saying she has ridden 3 or 4 times this year.

"I've been to two rodeos, Kianai, and here in Brocket.  "I did okay, I'm still learning, I'm still trying to perfect it all. It's fun, and I really like it."

She's go her sights on a more daunting goal as well.  "I want to do bulls when I perfect steers.  I want to do bulls next."

You can catch Emma and the other Piikani Youth Rodeo participants in action next Wednesday evening, September 11 starting at 5:00 pm.  Admission is free and the action continues until sundown.
