Ford Canada's Drive One 4UR School Event happened in the Ranchland Mall Parking lot on Saturday, September 21.  The fundraiser returned for a second year with the co-operation of Castle Ford, Ford Canada, Matthew Halton High School Booster Club and Friends of St. Michael's.

"We're here at our second annual Drive One 4UR School event, which is a fundraising initiative sponsored by Ford Canada, and Castle Ford," said Castle Ford Sales Manager Merlin Lewis.  "Ford will pay $20 per house hold for a test dive on one of these new Ford vehicles, up to a total of $6,000.  We have cars, SUV's and trucks.  14 vehicles (being driven) with another 14 on display.  At least one of every model."

When asked which one was being tested the most Lewis replied "The Mustang.  We had to create its own lane for quick access because of the interest in driving the Mustang."  Lewis sees this as a great way to be involved with the community.  "Working with the schools has been fantastic.  Everybody's excited."  Lewis was happy with the number of volunteers that came to help with the event.

Volunteers from St. Michael's and Matthew Halton Schools helped by signing up people, directing traffic, and keeping the energy flowing.  "It is great that Castle Ford and Ford Canada do this," said Friend's of St. Michael's Chair Lorraine Bruder.  "We appreciate the support from the volunteers, students, parents, grandparents, aunt's, uncles and general public that came out to help us reach our goal."

Time enough to catch the football game.  Go Mustangs!

The two schools involved had both their team Mascots, Halton' Hawk and St. Michael's Dragon, showing their colors at the event.  They both made an appearance at the Bantams Mustang game and encouraged the crowd to come up and participate after the game.

The event raised over $4,000, unofficially.  A final official tally is not expected for several weeks.

Rivals can work together for a good cause
