Pincher Creek Dolphins excel at Regional Swim Meet

• 25 Dolphins qualify for Provincials
• Lots of medals and personal bests
• New club records set

Over 30 members of Pincher Creek's Dolphins Swim Club traveled to Lethbridge to compete in the Regional Swim Meet on the weekend of August 9 - 11.  They brought back 24 gold medals, 21 in silver, and a dozen bronze.  They achieved 92 Personal Best times at the event.  They were the Net Point champions, averaging more than 22 points per swimmer, which means the 2013 Region F Net Points Banner will be hanging in the Dolphins home pool here in Pincher Creek.

"The Dolphins Swim Club did amazing," said Club President Kim Jorgenson, who explained that 25 kids out of the 30 that attended Regionals qualified for Provincials, which will be taking place in Edmonton August 16 - 18.  Only the top two in each category from a region move to Provincials, and Pincher Creek will be well represented next week.

Both personal and club records were broken at this meet.  "Hannah (Nazarek) broke her 1500 meter record Friday night, Ardelle (Layden) broke a record, Tyler Sommerfeldt broke Thomas Alexander's 8 and under record, and I believe Calvin (Cooley) broke a record too," said Jorgenson.  "Regionals is probably my favorite meet."

Christopher Alexander earned 4 Personal Bests that were also new Dolphins Club records, including setting a new Region F Record in the 800 Freestyle with a time of 10:38.49. Ardelle Layden set 2 new Dolphins Club records and established a new Region F Record with a time of 1:05.02 in the 100 Free.

"We have a great team.  The kids all support each other, they cheer each other on, and they go for their best times.  That's what our team focuses on is best times.  The medals are wonderful and amazing, and the kids deserve them that get them.  But there are kids behind the scenes that swim their heart out and get their best time.  That is just great."

Dolphins coaches Ardelle Layden and Laura Heine have signed contracts to return next season.  "This was our best year, by far, for best times and how the team did," enthused Jorgenson.  "In September we will have a team dinner, and give out our awards.  In the spring, I can only see it getting better."

The Dolphins are currently ranked 9th in the Province according to the Alberta Summer Swimming Association (ASSA).
