On Thursday July 18 at 5:00 pm a RCMP Traffic officer stopped a vehicle traveling east on Highway 1 near Canmore for a traffic safety infraction. Upon approaching the vehicle the officer noted a strong odour of raw cannabis coming from within the vehicle. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested.

A search of the vehicle revealed approximately 300 pounds of Cannabis marijuana, 3 kilograms of MDMA (Ecstasy) and an extendable baton. Street level sale of the contraband would yield over 2 million dollars.

A 34 year old male from Edmonton, Alberta has been charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and 1 count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. The male was released on $3000.00 cash bail to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on July 24 at 9:00 am.
