• Vista Village holding many celebrations during National Seniors Week

Residents of Vista Village in Pincher Creek had a sweet treat during Banana Split Tea on Thursday, June 6.  "Seniors are a big part of this community,"  said Mayor Ernie Olsen, who was on hand to wish the residents well on behalf of the Town of Pincher Creek during National Seniors Week. After his speech Debbie Boldt played piano for those in attendance.

"We have been doing special things throughout the week to celebrate National Seniors Week," said Vista's Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator Mel Walker.  "We celebrate our seniors every week, here."  Other celebrations included going to Summerview Hall for a Strawberry Tea, Bingo, and individual birthdays.  On Saturday morning June 8 the Cantare Children's Choir (from Calgary) will be entertaining at Vista Village.

Jim and Lyla Mitchell had an additional reason to celebrate.  Thursday June 6 was their 60th Wedding anniversary.  "We're still happy," said Lyla.

"It's wonderful to be treated so royally by so many organizations," said Vista Village Residents Association President Charlotte Ames.  Ames said that she has always been active in the community of Pincher Creek and has been the President in residence for 4 years.  She was sitting with Jean Cleland and Emile Schauerte during the Banana Split Tea.

Schauerte is responsible for the many intricate wooden sculptures displayed throughout Vista.  "I'm not able to do them anymore," he said, saying that his eyes were not up to the challenge of the delicate work.

The Pincher Cowley Roaring Lions visit Vista on the first Thursday of every month and  serve a different treat each time.  "We've been doing it for over four years now," said Virginia Delinte.
