On Saturday, May 4 Pincher Creek Emergency Services participated in Kids Discovery Day, organized by the Pincher Creek Chamber of Commerce. Local kids were given a tour of the Emergency Services facilities by Chief Cox and members of the Emergency Services team, a highlight of which was a chance to work a real fire hose. Emergency Services and Pincher Creek Community Emergency Management Agency gave a rope rescue demonstration exercise at the bridge on Hewetson Avenue.

These events made for a fine beginning to Emergency Preparedness Week which officially runs from May 5 to May 11. On Friday, May 10 from 10 am to 2 pm on Police Avenue between the 7-11 store and Provincial Building our local emergency organizations will be demonstrating emergency equipment and providing fun activities, information, and a chance to chat with emergency responders in our area.

Click here for more information about that event, and stay tuned for a full report about the rope rescue demonstration and Kids Discovery Day.

Later that same afternoon (May 4) Cowley Fire Department responded to a situation that turned out to be a false alarm in the Village of Cowley. Cowley Fire had Pincher Creek stand down before they were fully deployed.

Quad accident
On Sunday, May 5 at 8 pm Beaver Mines Engine and Pincher Creek Ambulance responded to a quad accident in the town of Beaver Mines. One person was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Ambulance fire
On Sunday, May 5 at 9:30 pm an ambulance returned to the Pincher Creek station, at which point the attendants smelled smoke. They inspected their ambulance and found that there was a fire under the body of the vehicle.   They contained the fire themselves with the use of an extinguisher. At the time of the incident they had already stood down and were not transporting any patients. The ambulance is being inspected for damages and the cause of the fire, which is undetermined at this time.
