New festival added to CNP Rum Runner Days lineup
A group of community spirited volunteers met last week to review plans for the upcoming Rum Runner Days Events from Thursday July 18th to Saturday July 20th in the Crowsnest Pass. Although there will be no fireworks, the intent is to bring back the most popular events from the past few years in addition to a brand new Crowsnest Children’s Festival.
“The Taste of Crowsnest Pass Wine and Food Festival was a new event last year and was extremely well received” reports volunteer event coordinator Penny Warris. We would like to build on that success by having a larger venue to showcase a “taste” of the fantastic restaurants in the Pass. There will be samplings of all types food, desserts, wines and coffees as well as local entertainment offered on Thursday night.
Friday night will see the return of the popular family fun race Sole Survivor Race. Anyone can participate as there are all levels from 2 , 5 or 10km to walk or run and race organizers are considering an even a longer option this year using the trail system.
Saturday will be a full day of entertainment. The traditional Lions Pancake Breakfast will kick start the morning, followed by the parade at 11am. The 9th Annual Crowsnest Pass Show’n’Shine will line the street from noon until 5pm. Last year saw the most ever entries at 88 cars - this year we can expect to see even more.
Meanwhile the first ever Crowsnest Children’s Festival will proceed from 12:30 until 7pm on the greenspace around Gazebo Park. Event organizers are very enthusiastic about the lineup of entertainment and activities for families to participate in. Included in the fun will be bouncy castles and inflatable obstacle courses, petting zoo, food, gift and toy vendors along with games and displays. There will be performances on stage all afternoon including HOJA ,an acapella group that is well known from school concerts, an award winning Magician and other musicians. The Gothic Knight and his Pure Power Wrestling crew is sure to entertain and amuse fans.
At 3pm the Boys and Girls Club 3rd Annual Duck Race will be a spectacle to see when over 1600 rubber ducks are dumped into Crowsnest River at Centre Access bridge and race all way to Frank. This year prizes will be awarded for first and last duck to cross the finish line.
The Children’s Festival will wrap up with a fun for all outdoor family dance. Penny says “the idea is to concentrate all the events and activities around Gazebo Park to create a street festival atmosphere. There will be a lot of energy and excitement in the air.”
A final highlight to the day will be the free all ages evening concert - a chance to bring your lawn chair down to the park and relax and enjoy a warm summer evening and more great music.
Additional events will be announced as they are confirmed and the Rum Runner committee looks forward to hosting a positive and friendly event and encourages the entire community of Crowsnest Pass to be part of the celebrations.
