"The Rotary Club, the Legion and and the Elks have donated money to purchase new uniforms for every level of Minor Baseball," said Pincher Creek Minor Baseball President Carrah Pinder-Walter at the opening of Hit, Pitch, and Run Skills Day.

Rotary President Gerry Alex presented a cheque for $2000, Pincher Creek Legion President Dick Waywood presented a cheque for $880, and Elks Treasurer Charlie Price presented a cheque for $880.  Between the three organizations this adds up to $3,760.

"I'm getting choked up.  It definitely brings tears to my eyes.  Amazing support from the Rotary, Legion, and Elks," said  Pinder-Walter afterward.  "I would like to thank Leslee Bruder.  She is the Majors Manager.  She organized everything.  She came to us, approached us the executive to write letters to the different organizations.  She delivered the letters, and did all the behind-the-scenes work."

After the cheque presentations the kids took to the diamonds to sharpen their skills under the direction of the American Legion League Royals from Fort MacLeod.  Royals athletes aged 14-19 helped measure their skills and gave hints and tips towards developing better skills.  Local kids from 4 to 14 years of age were timed running from second to home, they had their hits measured, and their pitching skills were evaluated.

"It's truly a fun day, a great day to test your skills in pitching, hitting and running," said Carrah Pinder-Walter. "Major League baseball and Scotts sponsors this day.  It's the three skills competition.  Typically, the winners would qualify to move on to a regional, in Montana.  The winners from there would go to the All Star Major League Baseball and participate in the skills there, normally."  Due to timing, the event on May 25 did not qualify.

The Minors have an upcoming game at Juan Teran Park on Wednesday, May 29.  Little League Day will be held June 1, 3013 in Lethbridge.  There will be a skills workshop and free entry into the Lethbridge Bulls game if you are wearing your District 1 ball uniform for any level of athlete from T-ball to Juniors.
