Saddle Soaping lesson at KBPV T. Lucas photos |
Toni Lucas, Pincher Creek Voice
Canyon Kids After School Program students visited Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village (KBPV) on the afternoon of May 24, 2013. Childcare Supervisors Shelley Tersptra and Samantha Bonwick from Children's World Daycare took the group of kids (ages 6 to 9) out to meet KBPV Curator Farley Wuth to learn more about pioneer history and do some hands on projects.
Wuth took the class to the North West Mounted Police barn on the KBPV grounds and had them clean saddles with saddle soap. He explained the importance of caring for your equipment, both back in the 1900's when you may not have been able to easily replace it, and today. He gently reminded them that picking up after themselves in their own rooms or putting garbage in the bin helps to care for their own items, their homes, and the environment.
