Upon attendance, investigators were advised that a 16 year female had been transported by Emergency Medical Services personnel to the Bow Island hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Initial investigation indicates that the victim was walking on the east side of Center Street northbound across the marked railway crossing. Despite the flashing red lights and alarm bells being activated and the train blowing its warning horn, the victim continued over the railway tracks where she was struck by a westbound Canadian Pacific train.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim was wearing earphones and reading while she walked.
The Bow Island RCMP's investigation is continuing with the assistance of members from Lethbridge Traffic Services- Collision Analyst Section, Taber RCMP and Redcliff RCMP. The identity of the victim will not be released.
