Neither snow nor rain... Rugby season begins in Pincher Creek

Pincher Creek's Hawks Senior and Junior Girls Rugby squads hosted their Sir Winston Churchill (Lethbridge) counterparts at Sproule Field on Thursday evening, April 11.  It was the first game of the season for the Hawks and the fifth for Sir Winston Churchill.

What had been a fairly nice and sunny spring day turned into a cold and wet evening as the girls took to the field, half an hour early to beat the storm.  Both teams gave it their all despite the blustery wet weather.

The Senior Girls played first, and Sir Winston Churchill won that game 12-0.  The Junior Hawks had better luck, playing a half hour game that Sir Winston Churchill won by a score of 17-10.  Rebecca Lowry and Maia Jorgensen scored tries for the Hawks.

Hawks Coach Randy Whitehead would like to see about 5 more girls join the team to take some of the pressure off the senior girls.  He said his big goal this year was to get the Hawks to the playoffs, which begin the week of May 27.
