The Nanton Palominos of the Ranchland Senior Men's Hockey League (RHL) won their first Provincials "A" title since 1997 at the 2013 Investors Group Hockey Alberta Provincials held in Innisfail last weekend.  The Palominos defeated the Devon Barons 6-3 on Sunday, April 7 in the final game to secure the championship.

Fort Macleod's Senior B Mustangs were the last RHL team to win a Provincial title, at the conclusion of the 2005-2006 season.

"I am so proud of all our teams this season, it makes me proud that when faced with adversity that these teams stepped up and showcased some great hockey," said RHL Commissioner Jason "Hoopy" Hueppelsheuser of the 2012/13 season.  "A great showing at provincials and winning the 'A' side of the tournament shows a lot of people and players what kind of hockey is in the south and what we are capable of if the quality of players is exposed to our league."

Hueppelsheuser also expressed his optimism about the future of the RHL, which includes the Pincher Creek Senior Huskies.

"As for next season there has been huge progress in Taber, the buzz in Brooks is back and Peigan Cowboys are pending but they will need an arena to call home if that is the case. But the standard has been set by these teams and we need to continue this standard of play to improve our league one year at a time."
