Allied Arts Council hosting pottery classes at the Lebel

Time's wheel runs back or stops.
Pottery and clay endure.

The Allied Arts Council’s pottery studio at the Lebel Mansion in Pincher Creek is once again up-and-running after volunteers cleaned it up recently.

A Clay Sculpture and Hand-building class is being held  Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, led by Gordon Perret.

Perret is the President of the Fort Macleod Allied Arts Council, and travels from Fort Macleod to instruct in Pincher Creek.  "I'm a sculptor more than a potter," Perret said when interviewed during a recent class.  He worked for 30 years as a teacher, including a long stint as an art teacher in Grande Prairie before moving back to southern Alberta to be closer to family.  He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Calgary in 1972, majoring in sculpting and minoring in ceramics and painting.

The class was originally planned to be held for six sessions but has been extended to nine. Six students are currently enrolled but more are welcome to join.  The class I attended featured a glazing demonstration, and the course is very clearly hands-on and to a certain degree directed by the artistic impulses of the individuals in attendance. A drop-in club is in the planning stages.

For more information about this or other courses phone the Allied Arts Council of Pincher Creek at 403-627-5272 or email lebelpc@gmail.com
