Group Group Youth youths read up on Drug Safety Lynne Teneycke photo |
Working in partnership with the Community Safety Net (CSN), Pincher Creek's Group Group Youth (GGY) is making Drug Safety books available to its young clientele. Another book that will be available starting in May will be the Personal Safety book, geared for children ages 9 - 12, also from CSN.
These books are free to the public and will be available through GGY and the Pincher Creek and District Municipal Library. GGY is happy to present these books with the help CSN and the various Pincher Creek businesses that contributed towards helping supply the books.
Lynne Teneycke has worked with GGY for close to 20 years and is very happy about this opportunity to educate both the children and families about drug and personal safety. She has found that the mandate of CSN is similar to her personal vision, and the vision of Group Group Youth. "Community Safety Net is a revolutionary safety awareness and education initiative that creates a network of concerned individuals who want to protect children and help save lives." This group helps increase awareness, while bringing communities together for the benefit of children.
Group Group Youth and Y.E.S. (Youth Employment Services) work closely with each other in Pincher Creek and will face many challenges in the upcoming year. In the past, they have received over $2,500 in funding from the STEP Program (Summer Temporary Employment Program). That program has been cut, and it will affect their staffing and programming dramatically. "We may have to scale down in the summer," said Teneycke, mentioning she would like to see the Junior Staff and Junior Volunteer Programs that help develop leadership skills in kids stay fully intact. She also said that juggling building upgrades, maintenance, operations, and programming funds can be challenging.
If you would would like to volunteer with either of these organizations, or to find out more about the various programs they run, contact Lynne Teneycke at 403-627-4616.
