During the Town Council meeting held on January 28, 2013 council approved a proposed bid to host the 2014 Southern Alberta Summer games here in Pincher Creek.  The Municipal District of Pincher Creek has confirmed that they are willing to share costs up to $30,000.  The Town of Pincher Creek currently has $16,000 set aside for the purpose in an account established from hosting the games in 2004.

Pincher Creek has previously hosted the games in 1970 (the inaugural year of the event), 1985, and 2004.  The four sports that must be hosted are Athletics (Track and Field), Golf, Soccer, and Swimming.  A minimum of 8 of 20 optional sports must be hosted as well.

Mayor Ernie Olsen expressed excitement about the possibility of the bid leading to hosting the event.  "It brings in a lot of people, and the opportunity to showcase our community.  I believe it will be a good thing for the Town and M.D. of Pincher Creek," he said.
