Junior B Girls: Livingstone Sabres vs St. Michael's Dragons

St. Michael's Jr. B Girls Dragons hosted their Livingstone Sabres counterparts for a friendly game of basketball on Thursday evening, February 7.

Through much of the first quarter the two teams seemed evenly matched, with neither managing to gain the upper hand.  Then the Dragons went on a spree, up 6-0 at one point before the Sabres rallied, scoring 10 points in a row to end the quarter up 10-6. The Sabres maintained that momentum in the second and third quarters, maintaining or regaining control of the ball and getting the rebounds more often, to lead 20-10 at the half and 34-12 at the end of the third.

After a somewhat disastrous third quarter, the Dragons rallied at the beginning of the final quarter, and actually outscored the Sabres 11-8 for the quarter.  It wasn't enough to win the game, but it was definitely nice to see the Dragons playing up to their potential against a very tough opponent.  From where I was sitting it looked like the Dragons had a bit of a breakthrough, growing as a team and as individuals.

Final score: Sabres 42, Dragons 23

Top scorers for the Dragons were Ilene and Olivia with 8 points each.  Top scorers for the Sabres were Katie McClung with 20 points and Kori Sandeman with 12 points.

Meanwhile, at Livingstone School the St. Michael's B Boys Dragons defeated their Livingstone Sabres counterparts by a score of 34-28.  A very close game.

Junior A Boys: Dragons vs Sabres
The Junior A Boys Sabres hosted their Dragons counterparts in the final game of the evening.  The Sabres had a very strong first quarter, up 13-7 by the end of it.  Sabres #10 Ross Cook and Dragons # 12 Kyle Knowlton each made a three-pointer in the quarter.  The Dragons had a much better second quarter, in part due to 6 points scored by Mitchell Zoratti.  The Sabres still outscored them, but by a much smaller 12-8 margin, to lead at the half by 25-14.

The Sabres had a very strong third quarter, outscoring the Sabres 15-14, with Zoratti again scoring 6 points and Kyle Knowlton making another three-pointer from centre court.    However, the Dragons lost that momentum in the third, scoring only 2 points to 18 by the Sabres.  For the Sabres, Ross Cook scored 6 points and Eric Cadonic scored 7 points, including a nice three-pointer from the centre line.

Final score: Sabres 57, Dragons 31

Top scorers for the Dragons were Kyle Knowlton with 15 points and Mitchell Zoratti with 12 points.
Top scorers for the Sabres were Eric Cadonic with 17 points, Ross Cook with 13 points, Jonathan Erickson with 10 points, and Chris Cail with 9 points.
