Fire at Castle Mountain Resort first aid station
Toni Lucas, Pincher Creek Voice
On the morning of Sunday, February 3 Pincher Creek Emergency Services responded to a call at Castle Mountain Resort with engines from Pincher Creek and Beaver Mines. A fire due to a broken gas line ignited a first aid station at the resort.
"An accident broke the gas line, then that ignited, and the fire from the broken gas line extended into the building," said Fire Chief Dave Cox. "We think at this time that it built up in the chimney of an electric heater that has a horizontal exhaust. So when that heater kicked in, it started."
By the time the fire departments arrived, Castle Mountain had already hooked lines to a hydrant and were attending the fire.
"They slowed up the building fire. When we got there in our protective gear we went in and shut off the gas," said Chief Cox. He said there was some fire and water damage, extensive smoke damage, and no injuries. The first aid facilities have been relocated until further notice.
Emergency Services update for the month of January, 2013
"We've had timely snow, and we haven't had any grass fires," said Chief Cox. "With the mild weather, we are losing snow pack, so the potential for grass fires is coming back." He also expressed that there were less highway accidents over the month of January, possibly due to less severe winds.
