St. Michael's 'B' Boys Dragons basketball team hosted Granum at the Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium on the evening of 5.  The Granum team is the only mixed team (boys and girls) in the league.

The Dragons made it to the scoreboard first, the result of two successful penalty shots by Chris Alexander, which was followed by a basket by Jordan Hochstein, putting them ahead 4-0.  The Dragons pressed Granum hard, dominating the first quarter, which ended with them ahead 13-6.

The second quarter was a low scoring fast-paced affair as Granum worked hard to push back the Dragons' attack.  The Dragons demonstrated a great deal of ability at stealing the ball. Granum's Colton Guest was notable as a never-say-die competitor.  The score stalled at 17-6 for a while, with both teams demonstrating strong defensive skills.  At the half the Dragons were ahead 20-10.

Granum surged in the third quarter, tying the Dragons with 8 points apiece.  It was the best showing for Granum of the evening.  In the final quarter Ethan Zoratti of the Dragons and Kiana Rondeau of Granum made great long-shots, including Rondeau's at-the-buzzer consolation basket.

The Dragons are developing well as a team.  They've obviously put some work into their fundamentals.  Granum is one of the pluckier teams I've seen this season, good humored and doggedly determined.

Final score:  Dragons 48, Granum 25
