The Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) was in attendance at the Willow Valley Trophy Club Award Day held in Pincher Creek last weekend to help spread awareness and the message of responsible hunting. "Report a poacher is a program that Alberta Conservation Association shares with Fish and Wildlife," said Poacher Coordinator Len Peleshok. "We do the promotional and educational part of it. Ordering stock, advertising, trade shows, while Sustainable Resource and Development does the enforcement."
"The Fish and Wildlife officers are now with the Solicitor General, and we are getting more media coverage in tv and the newspapers. I think it's important for people to see how serious poaching is. They are also trying to raise awareness through the 'My Meat's Legal' campaign," explained Peleshok. This slogan promotes Alberta's Report A Poacher program. Its message is to show pride in following the rules and respecting the rules and regulations that affect Alberta's fish and wildlife.
"It allows all of us to say that poaching is not going to be tolerated. We want to see people reporting more, rather than complaining."
