Three Junior League basketball games were played at St. Michael's Dale Wentz Memorial Gymnasium on Monday evening, January 28.

Jr. B Girls:  Hawks defeat Dragons

St. Michael's Jr. B Girls Dragons hosted their Halton Hawks counterparts  for a spirited game of basketball.  Both teams played their hearts out at the Hawks' hosted B Girls Crossover games held last weekend (click here for that story) but didn't face each other.

Jr. B Hawks vs Dragons

It was a low-scoring game, with lots of back and forth action.  At the half the Hawks were ahead 12-6.   Both teams scored 8 points in the third quarter, and the Hawks edged the Dragons 8 points to 6 in the final quarter, to win the game 28-20.

Eileen was the top scorer for the Dragons with 8 points, getting a basket in each quarter.  Dakoda was the top scorer for the Hawks, also with 8 points to her credit.

A solid effort from both teams.

The B Boys Dragons got off to a slow start in this game, but once they got moving, look out!  The first quarter ended in a 4-4 tie.  The Dragons dominated the second quarter, scoring 12 points to 6 from the Panthers.  At the half the Dragons were ahead 16-10.  The third quarter was similar to the second, with the Dragons scoring 14 points to 4 for the Panthers.  The Panthers rallied in the final quarter, scoring 10 points to 6 for the Dragons

Final score: Dragons 36, Panthers 24.

Top scorer for the Dragons was Ethan Zoratti with 10 points.  Three of those baskets came in the third quarter.  Also notable was the contributions of Dexter Obrique, Bruce Kirby, and Jaeger Bastien.  The Dragons played well as a team out there, and that made a big difference.  They intercepted well, worked the rebounds, and mounted a solid defence.

Top scorer for the Panthers was Keegan with 6 points.  It will be interesting to see this team after they've played a few more games.  They had lots of near misses, and appear to be on the cusp of breaking through to the next level.

Jr. A Boys: Dragons vs CNP Panthers

Jr. A Dragons vs Panthers
St. Michael's Jr. A Dragons hosted the CNP A Panthers for the final game of the evening.  The Dragons were dominant from the beginning, being audacious offensively maintaining an impenetrable barrier defensively.  They didn't let the Panthers near the net very often, they intercepted often, and they repeatedly got those important rebounds.  Their passing play was textbook on many occasions.

Jr. A Dragons
The Panthers appeared to be stronger defensively in the second half of the game, which unfortunately for them wasn't represented in the actual score.  To their credit, the Panthers really came to life in the last five minutes of the game,  but it was too little too late.

Final score:  Dragons 39, Panthers 15
